How to Be a Rockstar Podcast Guest

Your true fans are listening. We collected our best tips to help you keep them tuned into what you have to say.

Prepare yourself for the episode

  • Listen to 2+ episodes. This will help you get a feel for the cadence and rhythm of our podcast.

  • Check out our media kit to get an understanding of our audience.

  • Prepare a cheat-sheet with bullet points, data, or quotes that you might want to reference during the recording.

Find a good recording location

  • Plan on recording in a quiet room. The smaller, the better.

  • We record video as well so be sure you are well lit. Use natural light and/or a ring light. Eliminate light sources behind you that backlight you.

  • Sit in a chair that doesn’t squeak.

Prepare your tech setup

  • Ensure you can connect to the link we provided for your episode and that your software is updated, if needed.

  • Google “internet speed test" and click the “Run Speed Test” button. If needed, you can temporarily disconnect other devices such as Smart TVs and Smart Assistants before your recording.

  • Use an external microphone and headphones instead of your computer’s built-ins. Even the headsets that come for free with your smartphone will do a better job than none because they’re designed to mute background noise and improve voice quality.

Right before you join the green room

  • Close doors and windows.

  • Remind people not to interrupt you.

  • Close windows and apps on your computer that don’t need to be open during the recording; this prevents CPU overload.
Important: Close programs that try to use your mic/camera or make notification sounds.

  • Silence your cell phone.

During the Show

Don’t worry about stumbling over a word. We’re all about authentic conversations. If you need to start over due to an interruption or an audio mishap, feel free to pause for 3 seconds before restarting your sentence. The pause helps us find the spots that need editing in post-production.

After the show

  • Contact us with anything you mentioned in the recording that should go in the show notes. i.e. crediting sources

  • Rate and review the show if you haven’t yet.

  • Learn how you can promote your episode.
