Waiting for LinkedIn leads to fall from the sky, land in your DMs, and show up in your funnel? You might be waiting a while.
Posting matters. But there's a missing piece between the post and the people who engage with it, and that's where you go from random strangers to actual rapport (and maybe even grabbing coffee IRL).
Stacy Havener has a weekly habit to help you fill the gap, and it's not a heavy lift.
In this Story Snack, she's sharing:
The habit she calls "clearing the deck," and why responding days late still counts
What she DMs people who engage, without asking for a single thing
How she follows up when a commenter isn't in her network yet
Why a lot of the power of LinkedIn is in the shadows, with the people who never comment
The note she sends profile viewers, and the one question that gets them talking
If your LinkedIn strategy is basically post and pray, this one's for you. You’ll walk away with quick tips that’ll help you stop waiting around for leads and start going after them (without feeling spammy or weird).
This is Story Snacks, a bite-sized series for fund managers who want to get better at strategic storytelling in under 20 minutes a week.

[00:00:00] Stacy Havener: Craving more knowledge, but don't always have time to sit down for a five-course meal? Take a quick snack break with Story Snacks, bite-sized content to feed your funnel. Each short episode features Stacey digging into one question. This series has her talking stories, sales, and so much more. Oh, yeah. It's time for Story Snacks
[00:00:26] So I think there is a misconception with LinkedIn, which is if you post on LinkedIn, leads will somehow fall from the sky, land in your DMs or your inbox, and also on your funnel. And sometimes that happens, but it is not... That's the exception, not the rule And so there's a missing piece between a post and the people who engage and all that jazz, and what we do to [00:01:00] get them from random to rapport.
[00:01:03] Okay? And is it time-consuming? I mean, I guess it's a little bit time-consuming, but it's not a heavy lift. So obviously if anyone comments, and this is for company or personal, if anyone comments on a post, we wanna respond, even if that's days later. Like, for example, I have not been on LinkedIn this week, I'm slammed trying to get ready to go on my, my sabbatical, which I can't even say to you, 'cause I know you're gonna just be like, "Whatever."
[00:01:30] No LinkedIn time, okay? But I have... I did a post on Monday about my anniversary, and I got a lot of comments and nice, nice things, and I will go back and respond even though it's gonna be probably tomorrow. Always respond, even if it's... Ideally it's the same day, but whenever you get to it, okay? So this could be like a Friday activity.
[00:01:52] So you go in on a Friday, you go back, I call it clear the deck. Clear the deck on all the comments. Look at all the posts, whether they're the [00:02:00] personal comment, personal or company, respond to everyone, okay? And then when you look at who those people are, meaning the commenters, as well as the people who engaged, this is an opportunity to do a little give, a little something extra, which is to send them a DM.
[00:02:21] And it can be as simple as, if they're already a connection, let's say, just, you know, "Quick note, wanted to say thank you so much for your support on that post. It means a lot to me." There's no ask. It's just literally, "I see you and I'm grateful." Okay? And then there's gonna be some people in the engagements who are not connected to you or are not following your page.
[00:02:47] So instead of just sending a DM, we send it as part of the connection invite. And so my language around that is basically, uh, "Same. Thank you so much. Really appreciate your [00:03:00] support. Let's be official friends on here." That's what I say. Okay? And then I send those as part of the connection request, and now I've made a new connection.
[00:03:10] We're not done. Now you're gonna do another one more piece, which is, 'cause again, we're going from random to rapport. So we're gonna look at profile views, and we're gonna look at all the profile views for the week. Because a lot of the power of LinkedIn is in the shadows. There are people who are following you who are not out in the light saying, "Wow, Stacey," uh, "Eric, happy anniversary."
[00:03:41] Like, that's your close network or your close friends, but there are people who, you know, they're brave enough to like it, let's say, but there are people who, like, follow you, but they just don't... They're not in the light. So with those profile viewers, same thing. You send them a note. You say something like, "Saw you stop by my [00:04:00] profile.
[00:04:00] Thanks so much. Was there something specific that brought you by? If not, you know, appreciate it regardless. Let's connect or let's be friends on here," to use the same language. And so when you say, "Was there something specific?" And I'll give you the language of whatever it is I use, a lot of times people will tell you, "Oh yeah, well, I, I go to, you know, Dewey Beach, Rehoboth Beach in the summer, and I just...
[00:04:28] I love your posts." But do you see how the rapport, like, it just happened right there. Yeah. And then you're like, "Oh, my gosh. Let me know the next time you're in town. We can grab coffee." Now we're going from random to rapport to relationship, and all we did was send a nice little note, because the goal is to go from LinkedIn to life, right?
[00:04:50] From URL to IRL. Let's be real. No one wakes up and says, "I can't wait to build some operational infrastructure today." You're here [00:05:00] to manage money, to build something that lights you up, not chase down reports across 5 systems and 15 service providers. That's where Ultimus Fund Solutions comes in. They're your ops dream team, consolidating all your middle and back office chaos into one clean, scalable setup.
[00:05:20] Registered funds, private funds, SMAs, all integrated. One team, one tech platform, one rock solid source of data. But here's the real differentiator: service. I know that fund in a box sounds convenient. It's also a box. Know what you can't put in a box? A human who picks up the phone when you call and need help, real life people who know your name and your fund, and they care about getting it right.
[00:05:51] Ultimus was built on people doing business with people. You get institutional strength combined with boutique level [00:06:00] service without getting stuck in a phone tree of doom. If you're ready to simplify, scale, and start working with a team that feels like an extension of yours, check out billiondollarbackstory.com/ultimus.
